Mill Houses shows
A. J. Casson's solid sense of composition. Taking advantage of the
unusual perspective above the houses, Casson treated the buildings as
blocks organized at different angles beside the s-shaped stream.
Casson perfected his sense of design in commercial art firms, working
for a time as Frank Carmichael's assistant. Later in his career,
Casson would find great success painting Ontario's towns and villages
in watercolour.
